Javier Álvarez

Dr. Javier Álvarez Benedí started his career as a researcher at the University of Valladolid, and the Agro Food Technological Institute of Castilla y León. In 2003 he was appointed Head of the Coordination and Technology Area of this Institute, in charge of a strategic plan for enhancing open innovation in agro-food industries, in cooperation with business and universities. In 2007 he joined the Commissioner for Science and Technology of the regional Government of Castilla y León (Spain), as a technical advisor directly involved in the implementation of the University – Business Strategy of Castilla y León 2008 – 2013. This Commissioner was created in 2007 to coordinate the regional policies in the scope of science and technology, and it is the coordinating body of the strategy for smart specialization of Castilla y León. Dr. Álvarez has participated in the Spanish Delegation of the KBBE Committee of the 7 Framework Programme as representative of the Spanish Autonomous Communities, and he has also been an external evaluator and observer of FP6, FP7, H2020 and Horizon Europe calls.
